Doctor Who Seasons 1-12 Ranked Worst To Best
1. Season Four
There was never any doubt that season four is the absolute pinnacle of New Who. It's almost universally accepted that Russell T Davies' last season on his first time as Doctor Who show runner was some of his greatest work of all time.
There are many things that make it so wonderful. The dynamic between the Doctor and Donna was one of the most important. Seeing the Doctor travel with someone who isn't a love interest, and is just a best friend was so refreshing. Catherine Tate's performance was simultaneously comedic and heartbreaking. She hit all the right notes at the exact right times.
The stories in season four were also some of the best we've had in a single run too. It was consistently clever and fun. The arc was one of the strongest and even saw the return of Rose! This was an adventure we never wanted to end. Even when it did, and we had to say goodbye to Donna, the special episodes, saying goodbye to Ten, technically count as an extension to this series.
Waters of Mars was one of the most gut-wrenching explorations of time-travel that Doctor Who has ever explored, and The End of Time gave us a brilliant story for the Master, as well as one of the biggest twists and most painful regenerations we've ever had to witness in the show's history.
It only makes us more excited for Russell's imminent return.
