Doctor Who Series 10: 7 Big Questions After 'Thin Ice'

5. Does The Doctor Have Magical Alien Powers?

If the sonic is an advanced scientific instrument and not a magic wand, then what about the Doctor himself? When Bill asks him whether he has superpowers the Doctor sidesteps the question.

Perhaps it’s because he knows he can’t always make things better, and that recklessness and hope is often his only recourse, which is exactly how it turned out here. But he seems to be more concerned with finding out how the pie-man performed the coin trick, sounding particular dumb in the process and identifying himself as a conman and thief too.

Certainly from a human perspective the Doctor might at times appear to be like a comic book superhero. He shows incredible strength when breaking out of the mortuary in the TV Movie, he can type and drive at incredible speeds, read minds, and even slow down the passage of time (The End of the World).

Just like the human brain, no doubt the Doctor possesses natural powers that are largely untapped or only ever manifest in exceptional circumstances.

The most astonishing of all the Doctor’s alien powers, the ability to regenerate, is one that Bill has yet to discover. If the series 10 trailer is anything to go by then it is a facet of his Time Lord physiology that she will soon be exposed to. That little conversation is no doubt foreshadowing the time when the Doctor’s cells will begin to regenerate again.
