8. Does Clara Have Connections?
Quite intriguingly, we learn early on in the episode that someone is helping Clara connect with the Doctor. The Doctor asks Clara how she got the TARDIS phone number a phone that shouldnt even work. Clara answers quite vaguely that it came from a woman in a shop. Who was the woman in the shop? What shop? Was the mysterious figure River Song or perhaps a former companion? Interestingly, that same phone rang in another Steven Moffat story, The Empty Child (series 1). In that episode, a child was seeking its mother after being rewritten by alien nanogenes. The nanogenes were not malevolent, they were attempting to heal the injured child but they had no idea what a human was supposed to be. Consequently the childs identity both his physical form and personality - was reshaped in such a way that a human would consider it to be monstrous. Is the TARDIS "help line" only to be used in dire states of emergency? Is Clara and perhaps the Doctor himself in more danger than they could possibly realize? After all, what could be more primal or more dangerous than a monstrous child relentlessly seeking his mother?
