8. Delta And The Bannermen
On the other end of the scale from the narratively-bloated Silver Nemesis, you have the slight and silly Delta and the Bannermen. While Nemesis is the more famous story and Delta might not have anything on Nemesis' scope, it does sport a quirky story that's executed in a enjoyable, breezy manner. It's an inoffensive yarn with a barmy premise that only the Seventh Doctor's era could pull off - an alien refugee from a space war and her vicious pursuers crash-land and continue their fight in a 1950s holiday camp. It also sees a return of the darker hues of the show (just look at the story's death count!) after the light-heartedness of the previous two stories as well as a Seventh Doctor who is closer to the brooding figure fans will later know. What's more, the story sees the one appearance of motorbiker Ray, who would have made a decent replacement for Mel if Ace hadn't come along in the next adventure. Set in Barry Island and with a cast of widely Welsh characters, this is definitely one to watch if you're a fan of Russell T Davies' Doctor Who or Torchwood.
