Doctor Who: Village Of The Angels Review - 8 Ups & 4 Downs

6. DOWN - Dan Does Not Get His Moment

Guess who did absolutely nothing this week? That’s right - it was the chronically inactive Dan.

At this point we have to wonder what the point of introducing a new companion was for this series was. We complained about lack of connection between The Doctor and her previous ‘fam’, but with Dan things are even worse. He seems to have just wandered in and is remarkably clueless about life in general (was Dan intentionally written to be a bit dim?)

At this point, we’d also like to remind you at this point that Dan and The Doctor have spent, absolute tops, about an hour together. They’ve been split up for the last three episodes, and it’s starting to feel a little silly. If the show attempts any emotional pay-off with these two, it’s not going to land.

Dan is entertaining and charming, don’t get us wrong, but we just wish he was given more to do than throw a stick at a force field.

Alex is a sci-fi and fantasy swot, and is a writer for WhoCulture. He is incapable of watching TV without reciting trivia, and sometimes, when his heart is in the right place, and the stars are too, he’s worth listening to.
