Every time that one of Neil Gaiman's wonderful novels actually makes it to film or television rather than dying a painful death in development hell is always a cause for celebration. Unless of course you're the Emmys, in which case you will do everything possible to ignore it.

American Gods has been the recipient of a pretty positive critical response, as well as praise from viewers for the short time its been on the air. Yet the Emmys threw only a few minor categories in its direction (main title design and special visual effects, come on, who are they trying to kid?).

It seems unjust that actor Ian McShane isn't being acknowledged for his efforts as the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday, but probably the most obvious category that show was overlooked for have to do with its impressive visual style. It seems like in other years, it might have been a lock for cinematography and direction, or even gotten a nod for the big prize.
