Emmys 2019: 10 Most Outrageous Nomination Snubs
3. Richard Madden - Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series (Bodyguard)
Utterly baffling.
Richard Madden is one of the few younger Game Of Thrones actors to have secured himself a career post Westeros, and in Bodyguard has fully established himself as a major TV star for years to come. Expect rumours of Madden as a Bond candidate to circulate for the next decade.
He’s already been won the Golden Globe in this very category for his performance as David in Bodyguard, which makes the snub even stranger.
Obviously, different award ceremonies have different voters and it would be boring to have the same person win everywhere, but it’s rare that a winner in one gets ignored completely in another.
It’s a strong category, but there is one name that feels like it’s trading on its past. Kit Harington was an amazing Jon Snow, but Season 8 just saw him repeating ‘ah dunt want ett, ah nevah have’ over and over. Hardly the stuff Emmy wins are made of.
The one silver lining is that no Madden makes it easier for Billy Porter to win for his searingly delightful performance in Pose, although Sterling K. Brown is surely the front runner now.
