Emmys 2019: 10 Most Outrageous Nomination Snubs
4. Kristen Bell - Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series (The Good Place)
This one is a little strange, all things considered.
Just a quick scroll through of the nominations will tell you that the Emmys love The Good Place. It’s up for Outstanding Writing In A Comedy, Outstanding Comedy on its own and its two acting nominees from last year, Ted Danson as Outstanding Comedy Actor and Maya Rudolph as Outstanding Comedy Guest, have both been honoured again.
Still no love for leading lady Kristen Bell though.
Obviously, sometimes a show is greater than the sum of its parts and can be recognised overall without singling out its stars. The Good Place though doesn’t feel like one such show though. For one, Danson and Rudolph have been recognised twice now, but watching it always feels like the tone is being maintained by Bell’s infectious enthusiasm.
The laughs come from here, there and everywhere. It’s a very funny show, and you could easily make the argument that Danson and Rudolph are funnier than Bell. The Good Place just wouldn’t work without her performance as Eleanor though.
Outstanding Comedy Actress is unusually stacked this year, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Julia Louise-Dreyfus, Christina Applegate, Natasha Lyonne and Catherine O’Hara all wonderful nominees, but Bell has been desperately unlucky.
