Every Arrowverse Crossover Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Crisis On Earth-X
The fourth annual crossover saw the gang of heroes unite on a more positive occasion, as they all showed up for the wedding of the Arrowverse's primary couple Barry Allen and Iris West. Unfortunately, that occasion also sparked a visit from a ton of Nazi doppelgangers from the near-dead Earth-X.
With the largest cast of heroes to grace the Arrowverse yet, Crisis On Earth-X did a swell job juggling its countless characters as the writers ensured that all of the major storylines had the stakes that they needed, while also crafting villains that were far from one-note. From the unexpected pairing of Earth-X Oliver and Kara to the return of the vile Reverse-Flash, the villainy was undoubtedly delicious, but it was also multi-faceted - and that made it compelling.
Moreover, there was a seriousness to this one that made it all the more poignant. Sure, some of our favourite faces return and there are plenty of Easter Eggs in there, but the overarching feeling of dread that came with Earth-X and its barbaric outlook felt incredibly authentic - something that was heightened by a fan-favourite's shocking death - and it was that grit, that maturity, that played a big part in making this one feel even more cinematic than its predecessor.
There were some major drawbacks - like Felicity's insensitive hijacking of Barry and Iris' wedding - but overall, Crisis On Earth-X saw the-powers-that-be successfully raise the stakes once again to produce a gripping tale full of power and emotion. And, all said and done, that final battle is one of the best in Arrowverse history.
