Every Black Mirror Episode Ranked Worst To Best

4. USS Callister

Entire history of you black mirror
Netflix

With its season four opener USS Callister, Black Mirror made meta-fiction look better than ever. Sporting a wickedly talented cast - including Jesse Plemons, Cristin Milioti, Michaela Coel and Billy Magnusson - and the best set design of the entire series, the feature-length episode takes a look at toxic fandoms in a way only Black Mirror ever could.

Plemons stars as Robert Daly, a tech whiz who creates a Star Trek-inspired game in which he reigns supreme as the lead ship's arrogant captain. On the USS Callister, Daly is able to create characters based on his hurtful real-life colleagues and enact his revenge fantasies on them. But after new programmer Nanette Cole (Milioti) turns up, Daly begins to lose his grip on reality like never before.

A startling and often discomforting assessment of toxic fandoms and fragile masculinity, USS Callister is perhaps the most imaginative of all Black Mirror's episodes, and is as straight-up hysterical as it is effortlessly unsettling.
