Every Classic Doctor Who Companion Ranked From Worst To Best

12. Leela

Doctor Who Leela Louise Jameson
BBC

Leela was a companion of the Fourth Doctor, appearing in one of the most infamous serials of them all, The Talons of Weing-Chiang. While the script of the serial is incredibly strong, it has become marred in controversy. The depiction of Asian characters was full of out-dated stereotypes, something that wasn't handled particularly well at the time.

She was a highly capable companion, aiding the Doctor in defeating an attempted Rutan invasion of Earth in the early 1900s. She travelled with the Doctor for a long time, with much of her adventures taking place in the Big Finish audio adventures. Unlike many of the other companions that have travelled in the TARDIS, she wasn't hampered by Human drawbacks.

She was present when the Doctor was inducted as the Lord President of Gallifrey, during which time she met Andred, with whom she fell in love. Like so many other companions across time, she decides to leave her travels so that she can stay with her new fiancee. She is not entirely alone though, with him. K9, the most famous robot dog in all of time and space, stays with her to look after 'the mistress'.
