Every Classic Doctor Who Companion Ranked From Worst To Best

10. Grace Holloway

Doctor Who Daphne Ashbrook Grace Holloway

Grace Holloway has the distinction to be both companion to and a killer of the Doctor. The latter title is perhaps unfair, as it was through her attempts to save him that she accidentally stopped his hearts. Grace was a surgeon, assigned to help the Seventh Doctor when he was brought into the hospital after having been shot. Operating as she would on a human, she accidentally triggered his regeneration into the Eighth Doctor.

She travelled with his incarnation and helped him to fight the Master, who had been revived in the body of a paramedic. She was witness to the opening of the Eye of Harmony, while also helping the Doctor to find the atomic clock, a device that would allow him to restore time to its normal flow.

This would be the extent of her encounters with the Doctor, so far. Due to licensing issues, she has not returned to the Big Finish audio adventures, meaning that while her time with the Time Lord was brief, she was definitely a memorable and remarkable force in his life.
