Steven was a companion of the First Doctor who was another human out of time, meeting the Time Lord and Vicki as they were saying goodbye to Ian and Barbara. He had lived for years on the Mechanoid planet, fighting in the Krayt War as well, while having a mascot called HiFi - who was a little Panda!

He was one of the earliest companions to ever question the reality of the Doctor's actions, as in The Daleks' Master Plan he asked him if the sacrifice of so many human lives was worth the cost of defeating the Daleks overall.

After having landed in Paris, he and the Doctor argued over who was to blame when Steven left the TARDIS, but the Doctor abandoned their Huguenot friends. This began to pile on him, which over time wore down his enjoyment of travelling through time, combined with the sheer amount of death that he witnessed.

He eventually left the TARDIS to rule a combination of Savages and Elders on an Earth-like planet. The Doctor, realising he was the perfect man for the job, encouraged him to do so, promising to check back in on him. Unfortunately, as so often happens with those who travel with the Doctor, this promise would, to date, go unfulfilled.
