Every Classic Doctor Who Companion Ranked From Worst To Best

Vicki stepped in as Susan's replacement when the Doctor's granddaughter left the TARDIS. Vicki was an orphan from a future Earth, with whom Barbara gets off on the wrong foot. Vicki's sand beast companion, Sandy, is shot by Barbara, who thought the girl needed saving. It takes time for them to develop a positive relationship after this.

There is nothing at all wrong with Vicki, the reason she ranks so low is that there really weren't many interesting adventures for her on-screen. Her exit is quite strong, however, and with no reason to join them she remains with the Doctor while Ian and Barbara leave. They travel to Troy, where she ends up marrying Troilus and taking the name Cressida.

While history would record this love story as one doomed to tragedy, it is still a heck of a way to close out a tenure!
