Every Doctor Who Series Opener - Ranked Worst To Best

4. The Impossible Astronaut/Day Of The Moon

Doctor Who The Silence
BBC

Into the truly awesome openers now, Series 6 begins with this epic two-parter featuring one of the best revival villains ever.

Weeping Angels aside, The Silence are the cream of the crop when it comes to bad guys. Not only do they look absolutely terrifying but their ability to erase themselves from peoples' memories after they're no longer being observed, is so incredibly genius, it makes you forget the confusion and plot-holes that plagued the series.

Nevertheless, things started well enough. With a tense two-parter that was filmed and set primarily in the USA, something that was instrumental in furthering Who's fandom across the Atlantic, Canton Everett Delaware III is a great addition to the roster, and I only wish we could have seen more of him.

We also get the shocking death of the Doctor within the opening 10 minutes, which had audiences on the edge of the seat, wondering what would happen next. While the answer to that was rather underwhelming, we have to praise these episodes for setting up one of Who's most compelling narratives.
