Every Episode Of Atlanta Season One Ranked Worst To Best

4. Episode 3 - Go For Broke

Atlanta, Donald Glover
FX

The subject of the episode is set immediately when we open on Earn attempting to purchase a cheaper kids meal for himself at a fast food restaurant.

This won't be the first time Earn and Van run into questionable circumstances on a date, but in this first iteration it is Earn's reluctance to spend money he doesn't have. What some might consider frugal, Earn would call an everyday hustle in his life as he struggles to pay his way whilst keeping up appearances and supporting the mother of his child.

It's the first time we get a proper glimpse into the relationship between Earn and Van; and we understand why these two were romantic (or at least together) at one point in history. But this episode was too early for us to fully understand Van, and we get a rounded picture of her life later in the series.

For Alfred and Darius; they too are hustling as they attend a drug deal- reminding us that they're not productive members of society, but they are just trying to make their money like everyone else. The zaniness and otherworldly efforts of Atlanta really shine too, and set a tone the show endeavors to follow going forward.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
