Every HBO Comedy Ranked From Worst To Best
22. Looking
A show that already feels much missed even though it’s only been off the air for five years, Looking was often the best show nobody was watching. A touching, incredibly well observed story of three gay best friends living in San Francisco, this was an important and moving series that ended far before its times.
Its three protagonists were given some of the best LGBT+ characters ever seen on TV - Patrick, Agustin, and Dom, all of whom had struggled with their sexuality or the treatment they’d received to some extent, but were now free to live how they wished and seek connections and love in their lives.
Sexuality on TV is still often handled hamfistedly; this is decidedly not the case on Looking, which is frank in discussing the negative experiences the characters have had, but never defines them by this. It’s a show about searching for happiness and acceptance at large.
The second series was its last, but Looking got the opportunity to tie things up in a feature length finale. It’s the least this show deserved.
