Every HBO Comedy Ranked From Worst To Best

Sharon Horgan is the hardest working woman in comedy. In between writing and starring in breakthrough hits, she created and wrote on Divorce, the underrated, acidic sitcom featuring career best work from co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church as the embittered former couple at the heart of this anti-love story.

The leads play Frances and Robert, a well-to-do couple whose union falls apart when he discovers her affair. From there, the first season descends into black hearted chaos as the battling former spouses attempt to gain leverage on one another.

The serious tone of the main plot is supplemented by some hilarious side characters, most notably Molly Shannon as Frances’ nutty best pal. At times she can feel like she’s strayed in from another sitcom, but she adds much needed levity.

Warmth creeps in as the show progresses and the divorcees attempt to rebuild their lives - Horgan has a great way with characters, and creates some doozies here, who you can certainly understand if not empathise with.
