You'd be hard pressed to find a more traumatic or dark drama from the last ten years than I Know This Much Is True. The series is bursting with dread and melancholy, and it can be a lot to take in parts.
Luckily, it's not shock for shock's sake, but rather the violence and cruel twists are all necessary to the plot. Mark Ruffalo stuns in an Emmy-winning dual role, and the misery comes complete with one of HBO's most surprising and well-crafted final acts. Hard to sit through, but well worth the torment.
