That Amy Adams is a phenomenal actress goes without saying, but she really outdoes herself in this adaptation of the best-selling Gillian Flynn novel. Sharp Objects follows a reporter as she travels to her hometown to investigate a murder, and finds her own past coming up to haunt her.

The narrative plays with time like few other HBO miniseries, creating a dark and atmospheric thriller that rattles the senses with every passing scene. Directed by Jean-Marc Valle, every dark secret, shocking flashback and character interaction isn't merely shocking, but grounded and essential to the meticulous mystery and character study.
