Every HBO Miniseries Ranked Worst To Best
10. Olive Kitteridge (2008)
Frances McDormand is the star of Olive Kitteridge, and the reason it works so well. Playing the titular character, McDormand is problematic, conflicted, depressed and regretful. She's also human, with the miniseries slowly allowing Olive to open up and reveal her truer, deeper nature.
McDormand comes with fantastic supporting turns from Richard Jenkins and Bill Murray, and a narrative that splits the tantalising character study into four equally affecting chapters. Director Lisa Cholodenko ties everything up with an effective slow-burn, and the results make it clear why the series was such an award season darling.
