Every HBO Miniseries Ranked Worst To Best

33. Parade's End (2012)

The New Pope
BBC/HBO

Produced in partnership with the BBC, HBO's attempt to adapt the novels of Ford Maddox Ford is actually quite effective, primarily thanks to Benedict Cumberbatch's powerful and complex lead performance. Set after the First World War, the miniseries follows Cumberbatch's married conservative Christopher Tietjens as he falls in love with another woman.

With tragic character development and a moving overarching story, Parade's End is kept afloat by its performances, even if some of the narrative urgency feels slightly lost over its five-episode run.
