Every Season Of American Horror Story - Ranked
3. Apocalypse
This season would not have done so well if it had been
released in our current climate. But for the fans of 2018, who weren’t in the
midst of a pandemic, it hit all the right notes.
The theme was, unsurprisingly, the apocalypse: a world-wide nuclear fallout that saw life on Earth almost entirely extinct. This was the season where AHS explored the ultimate fear of our own annihilation. It was horror on a grander scale than the show had ever depicted.
And, alongside that, the story of Apocalypse was fuller as well. It had been known for a while that the seasons of AHS shared the same universe. Within Apocalypse, the story arcs of Murder House and Coven were expanded on and brought full circle, making this season feel like the end of an era – finishing where it started with the birth of the next Antichrist.
One of the most welcome additions from other seasons were the witches from Coven. Viewers saw the return of beloved characters Cordelia, Myrtle, and Madison (who were joined by newcomers Mallory and Coco) as they battled the Antichrist to reverse time and save the world.
You don’t get much higher stakes than that.
Attention was also brought to a new era of AHS cast – Billie Lourd proving herself to be star-quality as she took the lead of Mallory, and Cody Fern being introduced for the first time as charming and evil Michael Langdon.
1984 may have been a let down, but if Ryan Murphy and co.
return to the quality of Apocalypse, then the future for American Horror Story
is bright.
