Every Star Trek Film & TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best
23. Star Trek: Prodigy (2021-Present)
Star Trek's first television show aimed towards children is off to an okay start, though nothing that compares to classic Trek. As of the writing of this list, only season one has been released, so many of the big issues with the series may be fixed later. Even The Next Generation had a mediocre first season, so we'll give it time.
That being said, the story of Star Trek: Prodigy is rather basic. Aliens in the Delta Quadrant are trying to salvage a crashed experimental Starfleet ship called the Protostar. Eventually, some of their slaves, the main characters of the series, steal the vessel, and spend the first season trying to escape from their masters, along the way learning about space and the Federation through a hologram of Captain Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager.
The hologram serves as the characters' teacher as they explore the cosmos. It's a really cool way to make the show educational for younger audiences, and Janeway often mentions little pieces of lore that can help new fans get into the franchise.
The problem is that, other than Zero and Gwyn, most of the characters lack interesting story arcs, and the plot can be predictable, though the more stand-alone episodes like Time Amok really capture that Star Trek feeling. As far as modern kid's shows go, it's one of the best.
