18. Star Trek-Themed Opening Couch Gags

The opening couch gags are what set The Simpsons apart from other television shows. Undoubtedly far and above Brooklyn Nine Nine's iconic cold opens, for example, such a simple idea has transpired into sometimes even being the best part of the episode. On a few occasions, they've also been Star Trek related.

In both Homer vs. Patty and Selma, and Itchy and Scratchy Land, the couch gags features the family transporting onto their living room couch using the transporters as originally found in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Arguably the most notable instance of this, though, comes in season 27, episode seven - Lisa With An 'S'. The gag here sees a handful of couches floating around a vessel resembling the USS Enterprise, which consists of doughnuts. Not only that, but the music that's used here is the Klingon theme found in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
