17. The Whole Ending Of 'The Man Who Came To Be Dinner'
Okay, so this episode kind of takes the cake in the sense that its entire ending montage is a homage to Star Trek.
The Man Who Came To Be Dinner, first airing on 4 January 2015, focused on the Simpson family essentially being held hostage by Kang and Kodos, and are forced to choose which one of them should be eaten alive (hence the episode's title).
It concludes with the family escaping by flying a starship that's based on the USS Enterprise, complete with the original sound effects and theme music as composed by Alexander Courage. Here, Homer is the captain, Marge is the communications officer, Bart is the chief engineer, Lisa is the science officer, and Maggie is the navigator and helmsman.
After their journey is interrupted by Grandpa Simpsons (whose absent from the trip), Homer insists that Maggie set a course for anywhere but home, before the end credits roll, featuring various Simpsons characters in some of Star Trek's most classic Original Series episodes, including:
- Lenny and Carl in Let That Be Your Last Battlefield (season three, episode fifteen)
- Barney, Patty, and Selma in I, Mudd (season two, episode twelve)
- Homer in Arena (season one, episode nineteen)
- Crazy Cat Woman and her cats in The Trouble With Tribbles (season two, episode thirteen)
- Bart Simpson in The Doomsday Machine (season two, episode six)
- Marge in The Cage (original pilot)
- Mr. Burns in The Corbomite Maneuver (season one, episode two)
- Milhouse was also around, dressed as Quark
