David Simon has made some truly great TV for HBO, from his magnum opus The Wire to 2015 miniseries Show Me A Hero, so any project they develop together is going to garner interest.

This one has a pretty intriguing hook too, charting the legalisation and subsequent rise of the porn industry within New York throughout the 70s and 80s, tackling themes such as HIV and drug epidemics.

Maggie Gyllenhaal will play a sex worker, and James Franco has signed on to play twins, though Simon - and his ability for turning even the mundane into the magnificent - remains the major draw here,
