Doctor Who: EVERY Version Of The Cybermen Explained
8. Legion Cybermen (First Appearance: 2011)
At some unknown point, the Cybus Cybermen merged with the Cybermen of our world.
This resulted in a subtle new breed, who lacked the “C” on their chest plates (since they weren’t affiliated with Cybus Industries), but were otherwise identical to their parallel world counterparts.
They also didn’t have arm weapons, instead favouring the Preacher guns used by their predecessors, and were organised into legions, who monitored whole quadrants of space.
One such legion – the twelfth – was destroyed by the Eleventh Doctor, to pressure the Cybermen into telling him the location of Demons Run.
He later discovered a group of Legion Cybermen underneath a department store in Colchester, who were visibly damaged due to their ship crashing their years previously (with handlebars and chest plates missing, extra panels bolted on and circuitry exposed).
The Legion Cybermen then fought in the Cyber-Wars, supported by Cyberdrones – flying Cyber heads that could fire energy bolts from their eyes.
The shell of one survivor converted into a chess-playing “automaton” (apparently the 699th Wonder of the Universe), which ended up in the collection of Impresario Webley. And two later served the Lone Cyberman (more on him later).
Legion Cybermen also evolved independently as part of Operation Exodus.
