Family Guy: 5 Episodes With Terrible Lessons

4. I Am Peter, Hear Me Roar (Season 2, Episode 8)

Family Guy Brian
Fox

This episode tackled Peter's very casual and overt sexism. After telling an inappropriate joke in the office that lands him in sensitivity training, Peter learns to empathize with his female counterparts. The training was too effective, however, and Peter becomes extremely effeminate. Peter only snaps back to his usual self after witnessing Lois and his sensitivity trainer trade blows, which, for the lack of a better word, excited him.

The episode is admittedly hilarious, with Peter doing everything from chastising everyone at the Million Man March to attempting to breastfeed Stewie. As funny and well-written as the episode is, it leaves the viewer with a terrible set of lessons.

Peter doesn't find a happy medium between being a complete misogynist and over-the-top feminine. There's no reason a man can't empathize with women while also having a masculine identity, but the episode makes it seems as if men have to choose one or the other.

Peter's choice? He goes back to being a complete jerk towards women. I Am Peter Hear, Me Roar more or less tells us if it comes down to men being sexist or feminine, they're better off being sexist.
