The Flash: 19 Easter Eggs And References You Have To See

14. Reverse-Flash

The other detective to appear in The Flash's pilot episode was Eddie Thawne, West's partner who just so happens to be shacking up with his daughter Iris (much to Barry's tearful chagrin). He seems like a decent guy for the most part, good at his job, sympathetic to the victims of the robbery he spends most of the episode investigating. Obviously he's in the audiences bad books a little from the start because he snatched up Iris but, well, Barry was in a coma for nine months. What are you gonna do? That said, his name gives a hint that something truly villainous could be in Thawne's near-future. In the comics Eobard Thawne was a villain from the 25th century who took on the name of Reverse-Flash. Confusingly, Rever-Flash actually makes an appearance in this episode before the hero that inspired him. That scene at the beginning that keeps getting flashed back to, with Barry's mum being killed by someone with similar speedy powers? The perpetrator is glimpsed only briefly, wearing what looks like a yellow version of Allen's later uniform - yep, that's Reverse-Flash all right. In the comics he's actually a Barry obsessive from the future who travels back to muck up his life, sometimes under the name Professor Zoom which, really, isn't any less ridiculous than Reverse-Flash. The time travel makes sense, but there's been a few people who've held that title, so perhaps Thawne's a red herring? Time will tell...
