Friends: The Best Episode From Every Season

The one with the best TV.

Friends season 2
NBC

As one of TV's most popular sitcoms, Friends has more than a few classic episodes to justify its intense popularity.

An hilarious and comforting show about six friends navigating love, loss and careers in New York City, the series ran for ten seasons, and in that time allowed each of its characters to grow, change and royally screw-up in ways that alternated between very funny and deeply heartbreaking.

Whether it's an episode that focusses on Ross and Rachel's will-they-won't-they relationship, an all-out comedy piece where the gang work together to create some all-time great laughs, or an overlooked gem that more than deserves to be seen as a classic, the following episodes represent the absolute best of Friends' run.

Overall, the series may have its issues - no show is without them - but in watching these episodes it's clear why it remains such a beloved piece of pop culture history. With that in mind, here are the very best episodes from each season of Friends' ten-season tenure as a TV powerhouse.

10. Season One: The One With The East German Laundry Detergent

Friends season 2
NBC

The driving force of Friends comes from the relationship of Ross and Rachel, who spend over two-hundred episodes falling in and out of love with effective results. This endless will-they-won't-they starts here, in the show's fifth episode The One with the East German Laundry Detergent.

Recently cut off from her father and committed to living life on her own, Rachel lets slip she doesn't know how to do laundry, and so Ross joins her on her crusade to learn a life skill.

Their time together is sweet and witty in the way much of Friends' early run was, and allows Rachel to grow in a subtle but big way. Alongside this, the episode is boosted to greatness by an hysterical subplot involving Chandler, who attempts to break-up with Janice but in his endearing awkwardness can't seem to pull it off.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
