10. Hermes Conrad

Futurama Characters
20th Television

Hermes gets a significant shot in the arm when the Comedy Central era begins, but it’s still not enough to haul him higher than tenth.

Though they’re very different characters, he has the same sorts of flaws as That Guy; early appearances had him as a roadblock to adventure more than they actually involved him in the plot. Though later episodes fix that, it feels like Hermes is always a few steps behind.

The Six Million Dollar Mon and Lethal Inspection are both later evidence of this, spinning Hermes in two different yet equally directions. Six Million takes him to a Futurama level of extreme usually reserved for the bigger characters, as he customises his body with robotic parts as part of an off-the-wall storyline.

Lethal Inspection, though, mines territory explored in Hermes’ first big episode, How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back. The touching story goes into Hermes’ role as a bureaucrat a reveals he was Bender’s initial inspector who saved him from being found defective.

Hermes has a lot of heart, offers a good platform for other characters and occasionally gets in funny lines, but he’s probably the least used of the main cast.
