Robert Baratheon wasn't always the bulging, slobbering, care-free king as he appeared to be in Season 1. He was a mighty warrior complete with a legendary warhammer and a lust for war. He was the man who crushed the infamous Rhaegar Targaryen in the Battle of the Trident, slamming his weapon into the Prince's jewel-encrusted breastplate, scattering the rubies into the ford, hence the name. It is said to be an epic duel between the pair both thrashing in the water, and was sparked by another huge moment that changed the shape of Westeros, but more on that later.
