6. Lysa Arryn
What a deeply vile woman she was. It was tempting to put Littlefinger here, but his charm and wit, at least in the first six seasons, put him in the Cersei/Tywin mould of an admirable villain. With Lysa Arryn, no such luck.
It’s easy to forget that all the death and destruction of the show was caused by her: the true catalyst of the Game Of Thrones. She killed her own husband and blamed the Lannisters, essentially because she was jealous some lad fancied her sister instead of her.
It’s pathetic, no doubt, and while it technically started the saga, it’s not necessarily enough to make her hated. She was never the mastermind; she was as much a pawn to Littlefinger as anyone. It’s the rest of her behaviour which lands her here. Whether it’s breast feeding her son well past the acceptable age, her hatred of Cat spilling over onto Sansa or just those ghastly sex noises, Lysa Arryn is an all around nightmare.
Brilliantly played by Kate Dickie, Lysa Arryn isn’t a major villain of the show, but her every appearance is cringe inducing. It’s the utter contempt and revilement she draws from audiences which lands her here.
