3. Varys Is A Merman

Merlings - the catch-all name for mermen, mermaids and the like - are a mythical creature in Westeros, with no concrete evidence that they’ve ever truly existed, but claimed sightings and beliefs in them. The Ironmen believe that the Drowned God has mermaids; the Merling King is a God; the sigil of House Manderly is a merman.

This is a land with dragons, giants, and White Walkers, so the idea of merlings is actually very plausible, perhaps even likely. So, then…

Varys is a merman. Erm...well...ok, what?!

We know very little about Varys, which is exactly how he wants it. He prefers to deal in the shadows, the Spider weaving his web. He was supposedly a slave in Lys, and made a eunuch in Myr. He’s also bald, fat, and always covered in robes.

Well, the reason he’s covered in robes and disguised as a fat man is to hide his merman body, and that’s why he also claims to be a eunuch, so there’s no risk of anyone wanting to see his lower, fishy half. He doesn’t have a bed in his chambers, because why would a merman need one?

When Tyrion threatens to have him thrown overboard he is unperturbed, because he knows he can just swim away to safety. Because he’s a merman. It’s also believed that his co-conspirator, Illyrio Mopatis, is of the same species.

Littlefinger also ties into the theory, because he hires a ship called the Merling King, and claims to have Varys under control.

Varys and Illyrio are mermen under the control of Littlefinger. Petyr Baelish IS the Merling King. It all makes sense…
