Game Of Thrones: 10 Most Satisfying Moments

1. The Direwolf Flies At Winterfell ('Battle Of The Bastards')

There have been lots of soul-crushing deaths and losses in Game of Thrones, but everything pales in comparison to the incidents that started it all - Ned Stark's execution and the subsequent removal of the Starks from Winterfell. With those blows, a family was shattered.

That's why, when Sansa Stark and Jon Snow teamed up to take their home back from Ramsey Bolton, it was more than another battle - it was the closest they could come to avenging years of pain. Jon's army of wildlings and loyalists nearly fell, but a last-minute assist from the knights of the Vale was enough to oust House Bolton from the castle.

Finally, after years of exile and all the pain and suffering that had come with it, the Starks were back in Winterfell. In a world where home is more than just a roof - it's an identity - the recovery of Winterfell is a recovery of some kind of family life. The castle that always represented the pride and honor of the North is once again a beacon for good in a chaotic world.

Yes, the price they paid was terrible - Catelyn and Robb were killed at the red wedding, Rickon was murdered by Ramsay just prior to the battle for Winterfell, and, as far as Jon and Sansa know, both Arya and Bran are dead. Still, when the camera cuts from a beaten and bloody Ramsay to a Stark banner being unfurled over the walls of the castle, the victory is too meaningful to be altogether Pyrrhic. The Starks are home.
