Game Of Thrones: 10 Most Satisfying Moments

4. Daenerys Speaks Valyrian, Frees Astapor, Kills Kraznys ('And Now His Watch Is Ended')

Daenerys Targaryen may be born to rule the world, but that doesn't mean her path there is easy. She grows up under the thumb of an insane, abusive brother and is sold as a bride to Khal Drogo. That gives her the mission of preventing others from being as powerless as she was, so she leads the Dothraki on a quest to liberate all people.

Dany brokers a deal with Kraznys mo Nakloz, trading her largest dragon for 8,000 Unsullied slave warriors. When the handoff comes, Daenerys gives control of Drogon to Kraznys, then shocks him by speaking to the Unsullied in Valyrian, showing that she understood his earlier insults. She tells Kraznys that he cannot have Drogon because Drogon is not hers to give, then orders the Unsullied to kill all of the slaveholders in Astapor. Finally, with a single word - "dracarys" - Dany commands Drogon to burn Kraznys to death.

While this isn't Daenerys's first moment of inspiration or strength, the liberation of Astapor is her most heroic deed to date. She proves that power and idealism need not be exclusive from an unbudging demand that freedom is spread, and she shows just what sort of leader she will be - the kind who values the lives of each and every subject and will protect them as a mother protects her children.

It's made all the more powerful by the fact that it looks like it's going to be her first true failure. Both Jorah Mormont and Barristan Selmy warn Dany against trading away Drogon, and it looks to viewers like she's doing it in order to treat people as commodities. Our relief when her plan is revealed turns into joy at her triumph.
