Game Of Thrones: 10 Outrageous Book Moments That Won't Be Used

10. Arianne's Plot

The Dornish plot was the weakest part of Thrones' fifth season, with the Sand Snakes not convincingly portrayed (the fight with Jaime and Bronn was terrible, and that bad pu**y line stands as one of the show's cringiest), Doran Martell given little to do, and not an awful lot happening. It isn't exactly a standout setting in the books either, but it does have one significant advantage over the show: Doran's daughter, Arianne Martell. She's by far the most interesting character we meet in Dorne, extremely ambitious and also thirsty for revenge for Oberyn's death. She hatches a rather convoluted plot that would raise Myrcella to Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, and cement her own place as her father's rightful heir. However, the plan is foiled, leading to Ser Arys Oakheart, a member of the Kingsguard, being killed, and an attempt on Myrcella's life by Areo Hotah (although she just loses an ear). As for Arianne, she's locked up, but Doran later reveals he has bigger plans to avenge the deaths Dorne has suffered. Ellaria was something of a stand in for Arianne in the show, although a far less interesting version, and the plot was condensed and ended with the death of Myrcella instead. While that was shocking, there wasn't as much setup to care about, and means we aren't going to see one of the most intriguing plots nor characters on the show.
