Game Of Thrones: 10 Reasons The Movie Should Be A Prequel
2. It Means The Series Would End Properly
One of the reasons that there's so much belief in a potential Game Of Thrones movie is that George R.R. Martin seems so keen on the idea. He pops up every couple of years, while not finishing The Winds of Winter, to talk of how he'd love to see the series finished off with one epic blockbuster.
The problem with that is it would mean that the series doesn't end properly. There'd be no definitive conclusion, as you'd instead be waiting for the events of the film to wrap it all up. That would be a huge disservice to everything this show has done over the last five seasons, this rich and expansive tapestry it has managed to weave. It's an incredible serialised drama, and it really needs to be finished off in the same vein that has brought it so much success.
Doing a prequel negates that possibility, because it wouldn't interfere with the story being told on the TV series. It means that you get to have the movie, and also have a (hopefully) satisfactory end to the show as well.
