Game Of Thrones: 10 Worst Things The Starks Have Ever Done
6. Catelyn Released Jaime Lannister
When Ned Stark traveled south with Robert at the very beginning of the story, he passed down the title of Lord of Winterfell to Robb. Though he was incredibly young at the time, it wasn't long until this was passed down yet again to Bran as Robb claimed his crown as the King in the North.
Throughout his time as King, Robb led his people with maturity, and never lost a single battle. One of his earliest, and greatest victories was the Battle of the Whispering Wood, in which he took Jaime Lannister captive.
While the Stark bannermen took Robb as their King with little persuasion, Catelyn struggled to stop thinking of him as a son, and brother to her daughters. When her motherly instinct kicked in, she released Jaime into the custody of Brienne of Tarth, with the intention of trading him back to the Lannisters for the safe return of Arya and Sansa.
When she did this, it wasn't just her son she betrayed. Instead she betrayed her King, committed treason, and lost the most valuable prisoner the North could have ever hoped for, gaining nothing in return. If this had been anyone else in Robb's camp, there is a real chance they would have paid with their life.
