Game Of Thrones: 12 Things You Learn Rewatching Season 2
8. Melisandre's Scenes Take On Even More Power Now
One of the many new characters introduced in Season 2, few are as instantly mysterious and weird as Melisandre. It's quite clear from the off that the Red Witch can't be fully trusted, and it's unclear exactly how powerful she is, but the fact she births a murderous shadow baby suggests, well, pretty darn powerful. As an aside, that moment might still be Game of Thrones' strangest, even now.
Back then, even with the shadow baby, there was a question of whether a lot of what Melisandre said was all bluster. And that's an impression that lingers throughout, especially as Stannis ultimately fails. But then, knowing she was able to bring Jon Snow back from the dead gives a lot more strength to the arguments we see her make here.
Even more interesting, though, is when she says: "I’ve been fighting far longer than you." We had no idea then just what those words really meant. In a related moment of foreshadowing, Davos warns Stannis: "Nothing is worth what this will cost you." Through the Red Woman's beliefs, that means his daughter, and eventually his own lift too.
