It might seem cliched to include a show's pilot episode straight away, but it was a great first glimpse into the world of George R.R. Martin's works, especially for the loyal book reading hipsters who knew about Westeros 'before it was cool'. Looking back to the episode, it's crazy to think about how much has changed, with five of the characters pictured above deceased, one crippled, one missing, and the other two trying to forge their own individual paths. Before fans had even seen any of the main characters they were introduced to the demonic White Walkers, but it was the immediate incest and subsequent push from Jaime Lannister on Bran Stark that grabbed the attention, proving that this shows boundaries were sprawling and anything was possible. It was a great opener, and did a perfect job of setting up the various threads, including Daenerys and her dragon eggs.
