Game Of Thrones: 15 Moments That Pissed Off The Fans
5. Loras Is Arrested
One of the problematic storylines this season has been the arrest of Ser Loras Tyrell for being homosexual, and being involved in sexual activity of that nature. This is something that doesn’t happen in the books, and has prompted an outcry.
The fact that it doesn’t occur in the source material makes it a strange choice to show the Faith Militant persecuting Loras for being gay, and indeed some fans have been upset with his characterisation as a whole. While in the books he is established as an extremely brave and gifted knight, who happens to be gay, in the show it is the latter part that has come to define him.
Jane Johnson, one of George R.R. Martin’s editors, was particularly vocal about this on Twitter, saying: "HBO's #GameOfThronesSeason5 has gone completely rogue now. #Loras" and "I've never been happy that they made him a gay cartoon in the tv series: the characterization is much more nuanced in the books."
