Game Of Thrones: 5 Key Characters That Appear To Have Been Cut From Season 5

3. Euron, Victarion and Aeron Greyjoy

Theon and Asha (renamed Yara on television) Greyjoy are well-established characters in both the novels and the television series, the latter of which has also seen a handful of appearances from Balon Greyjoy, their father and the Lord of the Iron Islands, who mounted a rebellion against the Iron Throne several years after Robert's Rebellion only to be defeated, resuming this (to an extent) after Robert's death through an invasion of the North. In A Storm Of Swords, Balon's death (from a fall) is depicted in suspicious circumstances, and is largely suspected to be the work of the Faceless Men order that Jaqen H'ghar belongs to. On screen, however, he remains alive, and none of the storylines that follow his demise have therefore been set into motion. These principally revolve around Asha, as well as his three younger brothers, Euron, Victarion and Aeron, the first of whom suspiciously returns from exile almost immediately after his sibling's passing. Euron, Victarion and Asha all make claims for the throne of the Iron Islands, with Euron winning out with claims that he can bind of all Westeros to their will through the use of a Dragon Horn, an item acquired during his travels across the world. Aeron, a priest of the 'Drowned God' religion that prevails on the islands, vehemently opposes his ascension and goes into hiding, whilst Asha flees her homeland in an attempt to rescue her brother (which has already been partially depicted, quite messily, on the show). Victarion ultimately plays the largest part, appearing to remain dutiful to Euron when he is dispatched with the horn to capture Daenerys' as a wife. As a result of the loathing he holds towards his brother, however, he secretly seeks to court her for himself. Though Aeron is largely superfluous to the general plot (for now), Euron, Victarion and the Iron Islands in general are as important to the overarching narrative as the likes of Dorne. Though they could be held back for season six, elements of their stories need to be introduced sooner rather than later to incorporate them into events that they share with existing characters.
