Game Of Thrones: Ranking Every Major Battle From Worst To Best

18. Battle Of Yunkai

Game of Thrones Battle of Yunkai
HBO

The second part of Daenerys' masterplan to liberate Slaver's Bay, and another example of things going relatively easy for her at this point.

A two-pronged attack, we have Daario, Jorah, and Grey Worm killing the city guards in order to allow the Unsullied to flood in and take control, although unfortunately we don't get to see too much of the action.

It's good to see Jorah and Daario getting to take some of the spotlight in the Slaver's Bay plotline, and an important bit of progress for Dany, but as an action setpiece it's another where it's all tell and no show. Compared to Astapor before it and a couple of moments in Meereen afterwards, this feels like the forgotten middle chapter that they wanted to quickly skirt over.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
