Game Of Thrones: Ranking Every Season 6 Storyline From Worst To Best
10. Rise Of The Kraken
Key Characters: Theon Greyjoy, Yara Greyjoy, Euron Greyjoy, Balon Greyjoy
Best Moment: Yara attempts to be crowned Queen of the Iron Islands.
Worst Moment: An utterly wasted Euron Greyjoy.
This is another case of wasted potential, but with far more interesting characters. Euron Greyjoy makes an immediate impact, murdering his brother that is somehow much, much older than him. When Yara is making her case to be the first woman to lead the fearsome nation in the wake of her father's death, Uncle Euron shows up to ruin the fun.
That's it. That's the entirety of Euron's story, who looks set to become a major player in Season 7. Yara and Theon have some interesting scenes, with Theon still coming to grips with his regained humanity, and Yara trying her hardest to not be repulsed by what her brother once was. Once they are effectively exiled, however, Yara and Theon largely disappear from the season.
There are many storylines that would benefit from having less screen time, but this was definitely one that could have used more. Euron could use more characterization as the monster he looks set to become. Yara needs to be more fearsome, demonstrating how she is able to command so much respect from her soldiers. Theon needs to be shown on his road to redemption, particularly regarding his heinous acts in Season 5.
Disappointment is the name of the game here. Fans needed more character progression. Instead, all they got was a shipping of Daenerys and Yara.
