Game Of Thrones Season 6: 14 New Cast Members You Need To Know About

2. Mox Von Sydow

Game Of Thrones Ian Mcshane
DreamWorks Pictures

The Actor: Where to start? Max von Sydow has been acting for over 60 years, and has appeared in some absolutely huge films. He played the villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in James Bond film Never Say Never Again, Ming the Merciless in Flash Gordon, Liet-Kynes in Dune, and Lamar Burgess in Minority Report. He has also been nominated for two Oscars, for his leading role in Pelle erobreren, and a supporting role in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

As if his credentials as being something of a god in geekdom terms weren't already solidified, apart from Game of Thrones he'll be appearing in an unknown role in a little sci-fi film called The Force Awakens.

The Role: He won't be playing a new character, but is the latest example of of re-casting from Game of Thrones. He'll be taking on the role of the Three-Eyed Raven, who was played by Struan Roger in the season 4 finale The Children.

He is the mythical creature who resides in the weirwood tree far beyond the Wall, once a man known as Brynden Rivers, a legitimised Targaryen bastard and former Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. With Bran Stark set to return this year as well, it'll be up to von Sydow to show him the ropes, and teach him that he cannot walk, but can learn to fly.
