Game Of Thrones Season 7 Premiere: 9 Things You Might've Missed In 'Dragonstone'

5. The Harry Potter References

Game of Thrones Jim Broadbent Archmaester Ebrose
HBO

This episode introduced Jim Broadbent to the show, playing book character Archmaester Ebrose (although he might be an amalgamation of Ebrose and Marwyn the Mage, he is definitely credited as the former, contrary to a few articles about him).

Broadbent, of course, also starred in Harry Potter as Professor Horace Slughorn, Hogwarts' new Potions master, in The Half-Blood Prince. That would explain why, then, this episode made a big Harry Potter reference.

With Sam working away at the Citadel, he needs access to certain books that are off-limits. And this area of the library is called the Restricted Section, and he seeks permission to enter it, making it almost exactly like the Restricted Section in Hogwarts' library.

Keeping with the Harry Potter theme, there's also the undeniable fact that the way the Faceless Men magic works here, with Arya basically becoming Walder Frey (the height, the voice etc) rather than just wearing his face is just like Polyjuice potion.
