Game Of Thrones Season 8: 15 Stupid Blunders That Completely Ruined It

3. The Not-So-Long Night

Arya Night King Game Of Thrones
HBO

From the very first scene of the series, the white walkers were there. They were slowly built up season by season to be the ultimate threat. Hardhome demonstrated just what the living were up against.

And after all that buildup, with the seventh season ending with the white walkers breaching the wall and the marketing for the eighth season focused almost entirely on the impending fight, how did the big bads of the series turn out? They were defeated after a one-night siege of Winterfell by Arya, who somehow ran past the other white walkers to stab the night king.

The story of the white walkers was resolved prematurely. They were not the big threat that was promised, and after everything that happened in the last three episodes they feel insignificant to the larger story. And the night king's motivations were never properly explored either.

The white walkers were ultimately just a distraction, and their being defeated so quickly and so early in the season was a spit in the face.
