Game Of Thrones: 10 Best Character Pairings So Far

10. Jaime Lannister And Tyrion Lannister

Game Of Thrones has delved deep into the incestuous relationship between Jaime and his twin sister Cersei but until season four we hadn't seen a connection between Jaime and his younger brother Tyrion. Since returning to King€™s Landing however, that has all changed, leading to one of the most genuine, heartfelt relationships on the entire show. Before the death of Joffrey, we saw a more relaxed, less cocksure Jaime connecting with his brother. Tyrion was a big part of that new Jaime; for the first time we saw two brothers bonding over the pressures of the world around them and genuinely enjoying each other's company. We also saw Tyrion help his brother regain some of the strength he lost by arranging for Jaime to train with Bronn. It was clear that unlike Tyrion and Cersei, these two had a connection. But it was when Tyrion was imprisoned that we saw the real strength of the brotherly bond: Jaime was desperate to help Tyrion, even going as far as to bow to his father's whims and take up Casterly Rock just to ensure his brother lived. In their cell-based conversations we saw an open, truthful discussion about Jaime's relationship with their sister Cersei and his fathering of Joffery, Mycella and Tommen, something Jaime has never openly admitted before. Like their shared experience of their beetle-bashing cousin Orson in The Mountain And The Viper, we have seen a bond that goes back years. As season four has progressed it has been pleasure to see these two characters open up to each other. While it may be short-lived, it has still been one of the highlights of the show this year.
